Fill valve repair kit, can't remove old nylon parts to replace
Author: zuzzer (MA)

We have an American Standard Lexington toilet from around 1986. The fill valve hasn't been turning off completely, even if I manually pull up on the float, so it keeps dripping a little water and you can hear the fill valve slightly on.

Anyhow, I purchased an American Standard fill valve repair kit, which requires me to first remove existing fill nylon/plastic parts at the top, that thread into what I'm guessing is brass.

It won't budge. I tried pliers, ratchet sockets, pouring hot water on the brass, and lastly vise-grips, and it doesn't move and the various tools just chew up the existing nylon nut in the middle?

Any suggestions? If not, I could just punt on the replacement and get a FluidMaster or similar aftermarket replacement. I don't want to spend the $130 or so on the full stock American Standard replacement.

Thanks,

Steven

They don't want you to, either, which is why there are charging $130.00 for it.
