 Tub spout
Author: yonson (SC)

Hi Gang. I just installed a new DANCO tub spout on a bath I remodeled. I followed instructions properly (at least I think I did) and water is spraying out from the spout - backwards into the wall cavity. I can clearly see where it is coming from since the wall is still open on the other side. Just sprays out when I pull up the diverter. This has a white plastic sleeve attached over a 1/2" copper pipe. The spout screws onto this sleeve. There is an o ring that seals the two and I think it slipped on properly. I used a bit of silicone grease so it behaved well when I slid it on. Is it just that DANCO brand is a piece of crap of did I do something incorrectly? Thoughts?

Did you remove the inside "sleeve" to attach it to the copper pipe? If so, you should NOT have done it.

I slid the white sleeve over the 1/2" copper pipe with o ring provided, tightened the provided screw to hold it to the copper pipe, then turned the spout (threaded) onto (over) the sleeve.

Unless it is NOT the usual spout, you have to install it INTO the spout first, tightly, then slide it on to the copper, and finally tighten the screw thru the opening in the bottom of the spout.
