Clogged Shower Drain...Mostly My Fault...Help Needed
Author: DKsRevenge (CO)

Hi all,

A few months back I was snaking my shower drain with one of those 5 dollar home depot plastic drain snakes and accidentally broke off a roughly inch long portion of the snake in the lower section of the drain. My shower has progressively been draining less and less, and my best guess as to the culprit is the section of drain snake that has likely been collecting hair and other things.

The dilemma I have is, what's the most effective approach to either retrieving the section of drain snake or clearing the clog? What kind of process and equipment needs should I expect? Conversely, is this a job that's beyond the lay and perhaps better left to a professional?

Thanks for your help, I'll look forward to hearing from y'all.

You need to install a cleanout for this and future problems. Is this fixture a stand alone fixture? Does it have a vent that goes through the roof? If so you may be able to snake it with a 3/8' CABLE from the roof. But do yourself a favor and install the clean out. Otherwise you should hire a qualified Drain Cleaner. Good luck
