We are installing a soaking tub (Already purchased) The tub requires access from beneath the tub to secure the drain. The Wyndam tub and where I bought it had no callouts that this access was required.


Can anyone make a suggestion as to how to connect the drain without cutting a hole in my first floor textured ceiling? I want to be able to sleep at night knowing that it is not going to leak.


I know freestanding tubs are put in all the time so I know there has to be a fix.

they all need access.
if you can't get thru a wall on the backside by way of an access panel then you can by trial and error set the tub in place, take some careful measures, remove the tub, install the drain, if it fits perfectly you can install the top parts of the drain. if it doesn't fit perfectly, remove the tub, adjust the drain accordingly and re-install the tub. eventually you will get it right.

Once aligned, how do you thread the drain to seal with no access?

You tighten the concealed joints and screw the trim items for inside the tub.

The drain trim is already factory installed to the tub. Are you saying I need to try and take that off and attach from the top?

you need to remove all the drain trim from inside the tub.
at this point any drain parts will fall off the outside of the tub.
set the tub in place and take some careful measures of the location of the drain hole and the overflow hole.
remove the tub and install the outside drain pieces putting the outlet into a trap.
install the tub to see how close the openings line up with the outside trim
if your measures are accurate then the drain trim can be installed.
make sure the rubber gaskets are placed between the tub and the outside trim.
