Sweating 3/8 OD soft copper to 1/2 drop ear 90
Author: jblanche (WI)

What is the fitting I need to sweat a 3/8 OD 1/4 ID soft copper roll to a (low lead) 1/2 CTS brass drop ear 90?

This is for a wall-mounted drinking water faucet. Finished wall will be tiled with no access, so I want to sweat it.

Attached photo shows my dishwasher connection, which is why I have this idea that it can be done. There appears to be a fitting for this, but what is it called? At the big box, 3/8 CTS to 1/2 CTS coupling is way too big. Closest fit I could find in a fitting was the inside of a spigot end of a 3/8 street 90, but even that is too loose.

DWV Copper is called out by it's nominal ID. You need a ¼"x ½"(nominal) reducer.

Thank you!

Since this one is on the sponsor's site as a 1/2" FTG x 1/4" C Bushing, does it accept the 3/8 tubing in the small end, and insert in the drop ear 90 solder cup?

That is, would this let me skip sweating in a stub of 1/2 Type L between the drop ear 90 and a 1/2 to 1/4 coupling?

Yes, being that it's a "bushing", it fits inside a 1/2" fitting and the 3/8 OD tube will fit inside the other end.
