 Wall mount toilet carrier
Author: MikeBP (WI)

Looking for some input on adjusting a wall-mount toilet carrier for a replacement toilet.

Attached is a pic of the carrier - the new toilet specifies a Waste Horn spacing of 5/16" from the finished wall. The current spacing is 1". So the Question is how is the waste horn extension modified on this closet carrier?

Thanks,
Mike

rip some 2 x 4 stock into 9/16 shims and fatten the wall.

It screws in AFTER you loosen that large nut securing it in place.

LOL - yeah thought of that too: but adjusting the thickness of one entire wall is a bit radical - but I agree it is a brute force solution!

...anyone recognize who manufactured this. It'd been installed around 1970.

Thanks all for your comments & input!

hj - have you seen one of these in person or have knowledge of this particular Carrier to confirm that large outer "nut" will indeed spin off? I'd really hate to crack the cast pipe trying.....

Thanks HJ,
Mike

Since it is red, I assume it is a Wade carrier, but it makes no difference. They are all about the same, and you will NOT "break the cast iron" by loosening the nut. You may need a larger pipe wrench to turn the nipple, however and if you should need to damage the outlet, it is a common 4" nipple and any manufacturer can furnish a cast iron or plastic nipple.
