I noticed the round imperfection in the copper plumbing. It does not leak. Is this something to worry about?

that must be an inactive water line?

The water line is active. The hole is only on the outside of the pipe and does not make its way through. No idea what caused this.

so clamp it shut either with a home made clamp or a commercially available clamp and you'll be good for 25 years..
if you do a home made, be sure the stainless hose clamp holding the rubber is right on top of the leak.
if you soldering skills are good, you can shut and drain the tubing and solder it shut..

Since the wall is open, cut out a 1 foot section of the piping which includes this imperfection.

Then look inside the piping pointing towards a light. If you see numerous 'bumps' inside this pipe and the inside is not smooth, the piping is deteriorating. It's better to know now and address the issue before waiting till after it's leaking.
