 tub faucet drips
Author: macjake (MD)

Bathtub hot water won’t stop dripping at faucet. I have fixed this many times before by just replacing the rubber washer and or the seat. I even replaced the stem with a new one but still drips. I made sure I used the white washer that comes with the new stem—and removed the old white washer that was stuck on the pipe. I never had to use Teflon tape or joint compound before on the stem but this time I used pipe joint compound but it did not make any difference—the hot water still won’t shut off at the faucet. I should not have to call a plumber for this but I’m running out of ideas. Thanks for any help.

You should not have to use Teflon Tape or Pipe Joint Compound for a valve stem. You may have cross threaded the replacement seat. If that happened you must use the proper die to make sure the threads are not crossed. Note this die will not be tapered. Be careful or you can damage the valve body and be sure you are perpendicular and at a right angle to the vertical plane. As a last reminder be sure you have the proper parts. Good luck.
