I need to replace my dishwasher soon. When I looked under the sink, I don't see the drain line connecting to the disposal, or into the pipe below the second sink before the trap. This dishwasher has been here since we moved in 7 years ago, and we haven't had issues with sewer odor, but I don't think connecting after the trap is correct. I won't be able to see where the line is actually connected until I pull out the existing unit.

I'm trying to anticipate what I should expect. If this is actually connected after the trap (and there isn't another trap that I don't know about behind the dishwasher), it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to connect the drain correctly under the sink (either to the disposal or to the other sink) above the trap.

My concern is the existing drain. If this is connected to the wastewater line after the trap, is there some kind of adapter or plug I can look for that would allow me to seal off this drain location so that I don't have issues with it after rerouting the drain?

Any advice on what to look for or consider in advance would be appreciated. Thanks.

just what you use depends on the type and size of pipe that you are plugging/capping.

I think I figured out the pic. I couldn't get a good picture without pulling out everything, which I didn't want to do until I had a better plan.
