 Shower valve identification
Author: EdB (WA)

I am trying to find new show/tub trim kit for my shower. The house is 40 years old and the valve is original.

The stem is round with a flat surface on top and bottom. It operates by pulling out to turn on and adjust pressure, and rotate to adjust hot/cold.

Is that enough information to identify the brand of products that will fit? Appears similar to Moen, but most of their products are a posi-temp, that does not operate the same... Any ideas?

Thanks for any and all help.

Ed

40 years old... if the copper is coming up through a concrete slab you had better put money aside for a Re-Pipe. You must have good water chemistry and or good soil conditions to last this long assuming the copper is underground. I have a friend in Battleground, WA that replaced his a couple of years ago. That valve looks like an older Moen Shower/tub valve. Go to Moen.com and email the photo to customer Support for verification. Good luck.

Moen just calls it their "Standard Valve". If you are wanting a special finish instead of chrome you can use a Moentrol trim if you install a 145058 adapter plate shown in the link. The Moen escutcheon screws for the Standard valve are side by side and the Moentrol screws are on the diagonal. The plain chrome trim for the valve is # T470.
