 Pulsating water.
Author: kingshakabobo (IL)

I’m in Chicago on city water.

I’ve noticed lately my shower pulsating slowly. Sometimes more noticeable than others.

I thought it might be a city water issue but haven’t found anything on the googles.

It’s not a big deal. Just weird.

Could it be my grohe tempature control or volume control? The temp control feeds 4 volum controls for shower, rain shower, body spray and hand spray. I seldom use anything but body spray and regular shower.

Could it be the common water meter in this six unit building? Just checked with a neighbor and hers pulsates.

i would think that if there is something wrong with the water meter that all fixtures would be affected, not just showers ??
while the shower is pulsating, turn on something else.
if the meter is causing the pulsing then the other fixture should be affected..

My kitchen sink is currently doing it. And then it stopped while I was typing.

And my neighbor says she has noticed it in the past. I only really noticed it previously in the shower probably because I’m standing under it.

It’s a slow methodical pulse. Like one one thousand two one thousand....

I thought about maybe someone doing laundry in the Building might cause a drop? But that would be longer cycles no?

Various sounds and changes in water pressure can be caused by a number of things. From a defective pressure regulator to wrong pipe sizing, pipes not secured properly, and others. Water systems are often more complicated than not. You need to be a detective and open to all possibilities.

I’m pretty sure we don’t have a pressure regulator. Unless it’s buried outside. That would be inside by the service entrance near the meter? Yes? This is Chicago.

I’ve lived here 20 years and this is a recent occurrence. So far, two neighbors have replied to my text they are experiencing the same. That’s 3 out of 6 units.

It’s a 100 year old building with newer copper done in 2000 ish.

Gotta be something mechanical or the city? No?

Btw, we don’t have a recirculation system.
