Sump pump runs even though no rain
Author: Rob1964 (ME)

Hello,

I bought a new home in June, in Maine, and never had a sump pump before so not sure
what is going on smiling smiley

I never heard it run, and it appeared to be dry as a bone, until a few weeks ago, mid-October.

We had some severe, torrential, heavy rains during the summer, and the pit stayed dry, never
heard the pump kick on. The previous owner said it mostly runs in the spring, which made sense.

But the past few weeks it's been running several times, at least, a day. It just kicked on now
and it hasn't rained in 3 days. The water pressure in the house hasn't changed. My house is about
1/2 mile down a gentle slope from a large pond and the guy that was taking care of the yard said
that's why the lawn/flowers don't need to be watered...but I can't figure out why I'm getting water
in the sump now and not when it was warmer out.

Any ideas?
Thanks!
Rob

ground water rises and lowers according to the amount of rain we have.
it's been a very wet fall here in MA so i assume ME is the same.
so what you describe seems normal to me..
