 Water heater
Author: Livindedgrl318 (NY)

My husband woke up this morning and said first he noticed the shower head was leaking. Not a drip but a light steady stream. He then noticed there was a dripping sound coming from the utility closet that holds the hot water heater. There’s some water on the floor but not a lot.

Does this mean my water heater died?

Would that also cause the shower head to leak like it is?

Not enough information to answer either question.

The leak around the water heater doesn't necessarily mean the tank is leaking because it could be a water pipe or a connection leaking or the T&P discharging from excessive pressure in the system.

The shower valve controlling the flow of water to the shower head is independent to the water heater leak.

I would find out if the tank is leaking and if so have a licensed plumber replace the unit.
I would find a replacement cartridge for the shower valve and have same plumber do the repair.

Post photos if you can.
