Little Giant sump pump power cord.
Author: Dakota Traveler (SD)

I cut the power cord to the diaphragm switch on my sump pump. In splicing it back together I discovered a hard plastic tube inside the power cord. I see a small hole in the plug itself.being unable to splice the tube, I left a small piece of it sticking out of the splice in the part of the cord leading to the pump. The tube opening is well above any possible water level.
Will this work or do I need to spring for $100 for a new cord?
Any thoughts appreciated.

It is a pressure relief tube. If any moisture/condensation gets into it the switch may not work. When the cord is not cut, the tube's outlet on the plug usually points downward to keep water out.

Thanks. I thought that was what it was for and I will take care to see that no moisture gets to it.
How does the power plug keep condensation out?

A piece of shrink tubing should splice the tube in the cord.

It doesn't which is why it goes into the receptacle with the "hose" opening facing downward so condensation will NOT enter it.

Hello, I have an issue with my little giant 6-cia-ml that I use as a laundry tray pump. I took it apart and cleaned the basin out as its been a couple of years and I changed the check valve to a swing check because I realized that was what the manual had originally called for. After I reassembled it she cycled perfectly for two cycles, but on the third it wouldn't shut off and it still gets stuck running once I trigger it. It is possible that I got water or at least moisture into the vent tube on the cord. Is there a way to remedy that? Can I use air to blow or suck it dry and open? Thanks in advance for your advice!
