Recently moved into a home and right away noticed a sewer gas-like smell when running the electric dryer. The smell doesn't come from inside the dryer itself but through a crack in the linen closet upstairs, which I find strange. I have checked the lint trap as well as the dryer vent and nothing is blocked. As soon as I stop the dryer the smell goes away. Any ideas on what this could be?

Could be a tiny leak from the gas connection to the dryer, maybe the wrong adaptor was used. I have seen it before.

srloren, unless it is a duel-fuel appliance, there should be no gas pipe run to an electric dryer..
i do the same thing myself, on occasion hahaha

andy... crack a window in the laundry room next time you use it.. see if that makes a difference.
i'm thinking there may be an odor drawn to the dryer when it is running.
could be a dried out plumbing trap or a crack in a vent pipe ??

I agree with Packy. You may have a floor drain under your Auto Washer and often they dry out because water is not spilled onto the floor by an overflow of that drain. Its worth a look.
