We have a Weil McLean gas hot water boiler for our baseboard system. A few times today, when it kicked on, I heard a
"CCCCGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH" sound like a prolonged electrical arcing. I'm thinking it's a relay. Any ideas? Is it something to be preemptive about and replace now?

The noise will probably stop, and so will the boiler functioning. The tech that comes to fix it on Christmas Eve will enjoy that you are paying for his whole Christmas. That's usually the way it works. Get it fixed.

I'm the tech. How do I determine that it is, in fact, the relay?

Does the boiler have a Honeywell Aquastat? They are notorious for buzzing. If so, take the cover off the aquastat and try and re-create the noise. Have a screwdriver with you, so you can tap the relay with the handle if it starts buzzing. If it is, replace the aquastat.

You either put your ear next to it or remove the cover, then activate the relay and see what happens. DO NOT just "replace the relay to see if that fixes it".
