 Moen balancing spool help
Author: jrscon (SC)

I removed my balancing spool and shook it. I did not hear anything. So I boiled it in hot water and vinegar and shook it again. Still nothing. Went on line and looked for a replacement and noticed my original did not have the back cap on it with the three holes. It was just missing and I assume anything inside it was missing too. How can this be? Where is it? I put a small screwdriver in the hole and felt around but nothing. I bought a replacement. Will it hurt to just put it back in. The top separated from the body when I took it out but I was able to get the body out.

If you think there are parts of the valve in your system, you should try to remove them, maybe try to blow them out with air or water

I would guess the balance spool failed and someone removed the back cap and spool. You should have no problem installing the new one.
