CSST in MA regards gas expolsions
Author: packy (MA)

all the CSST in the affected areas of lawrence, andover and north andover must be removed and replaced.
CSST is only rated for 5 PSI so even if it passes a new pressure test, the authorities are calling it all unsafe.

Test pressures are usually 2x operating pressure.

MINIMUM REQUIRED test pressures

not even close to good, never mind best, practice

? why not 100 psi for 4 hours ? piece of cake for steel pipe and fittings smiling smiley

(albeit a thermometer, yes, a thermometer, may be necessary to compensate for ambient temperature change)

I have installed Tracpipe and Wardflex CSST.
Both have pressure rating of 25 PSI.

Good thing since I did all my pressure testing at 20 PSI.
Not until this post did it occur to me that CSST piping has
a rather low pressure rating rating compared to good ole steel pipe.

At least a couple of manufacturers have tested to 250psi and noted no failure or deformation.

Who ever said that plumbing was supposed to be easy? It's supposed to be safe. I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers when all gas piping was steel and hand-threaded.

I'll admit that I was pretty happy when I could afford a 300 though.
