I just had the main sewer trap in a 2 family rental clog up again. It happens about once every 4 or 5 months. It was clogged with some soft, white goop like lumpy CRISCO or gelatin. It seems to collect on the house side of the trap and back into the pipe. I can clear it easily by hand. Of course, both tenants in this rental property deny putting anything strange down the drain or toilet.
Any ideas where I can take a sample and have it analyzed so I can find the culprit?

Sounds like bacon grease. Assure them that it is not OK to pour it down the drain but should be disposed of in the trash waste bin. Otherwise you will keep calling the Plumber.

thanks for the response but, since both tenants deny putting any grease down the drain, I need to have this goop analyzed in the hope of identifying which tenant is doing it. Any ideas on where I can send a sample? I;m asking because I can't sen to find a lab

Your local sewage treatment plant may have a Lab or suggest a location.
