 Septic System pumping
Author: rkdeason (CA)

We are purchasing a home in Hayden, Idaho. It has a septic system with two drain fields. The owner has been there 20 years and said that he has never pumped the system and that it doesn't need to be pumped. I have never heard of this before but I am newer to septic. Are there systems that don't need to be pumped or checked unless there is an issue. Any advise on what needs to be done and what to expect would be appreciated. Thank you.

Where I live in Massachusetts any time a home is sold that has a septic an inspection must be done. It is called title 5 here. Google septic inspection in California and it will tell you all you need to know

The septic system needs to be inspected, the tank should be inspected for amount of solids in it and most likely pumped. When pumping we remove the solids to protect the leach field. Leach field if there are indeed two of them many times have a diverter valve so that for a Time One field is used while the other field is so-called resting. And then that is redone. There are ways of testing the leach fields. One of the things that you should check is to ensure that the T going to the leach field as intact in this not falling off which would expose the leach field two solids from the septic tank which would an effect clog the leach field make sure you know the location of the leach field and the type of leach field if it's perforated pipe Or Chambers. Will probably want to install a filter of the effluent from the septic tank if it is not one there. I would Google home inspectors inspection of septic systems.

title 5 has caused more harm than good.
a seller can not take 25 or 50,000 off the price of the home to cover the cost of a septic repair/replace.
they MUST do the work before the sale.
consequently the repair/replace will be done the cheapest way and given to the lowest bidder.
this is NOT the way you want to have work done on your home...

Septic inspectors mainly check out three things during an inspection: the integrity of the septic tank, the proper function of the distribution box, and a leach field that is working properly. If no error found with either, you will have passed the septic inspection.
