Ok another ? I have 1/4" plastic waterline to ice maker, I used brass ferrule ?
Author: cvcman (NY)

Ok I put new 1/4 turn shutoffs in with the new kitchen sink. The cold water one has the 1/4" connection for the ice maker..I put the brass sleeve inside the plastic icemaker tube but I used the brass compression ferrule that came with the shutoff.
Is this ok ? I see SOME of the kits have the sleeve and a plastic tapered ferrule, others have the brass one made inside the nut.
Its not leaking but I wanted to be sure its ok or not...thx fellas !

It may or may not hold up. I would use the Plastic feral to be safe.

hummm....I see some the kits come with the brass compression nut with the built in brass ferrule..and other kits come with the plastic tapered ferrule ...so if you use the plastic ferrule should you still use the sleeve ?

i have never seen any adverse effect from a metal ferrule onto a plastic tube if the insert sleeve is used.
relax and enjoy the weekend.

i wouldn't change it.
it is a compression joint. the plastic tube is squashed between a metal sleeve that sticks out beyond the compression nut and the metal nut itself.

Not 100% agreement on this one. Why would you take a chance and use a compression fitting not designed for the application? I like to sleep at night. Snip the old one off and use the plastic compression setup and insert the plastic insert in, don't over tighten it and you are good to go.
