i just pulled my first 1200 cartridge today...all brass....moen puller work great....i reinstalled a new 1200 in its place. A friend said he would have used a 1225 because it will last longer and costs $5 less
they are the same shape and would appear to work, but the rubber on the sides looks completely different.
any opinions if replacing with plastic is better?

The 1225 will work smoother longer, but it will start leaking a lot sooner. The brass one will last "forever" but eventually it will pull so hard you will want to change it.

The 1225 will also be easier to remove in hard water conditions...

I only stock and install the 1225's, I don't know why for sure. Seems they last longer in bad water situations. I don't know, just like them better.

i couldnt get the new brass 1200 back into the body...i had to take a 1/2" copper brush and spit to sand it slightly....i assume the 1225 wont cause as much corrosion inside and will make the next replacement easier?

Moen will replace the 1225 for free, but not the brass cartridge, at least here in cali, I 'trade' in the old ones at the local supply and that's a good thing.
p.s I have had some 'close' themselves if the pressure is high and have to use the brass cartridge

They replace the brass ones if they have the word "MOEN" stamped on the side. Even some of the original OEM ones, right out of a valve do not have it.
