Can anyone give me a review on Gerber toilets and there new faucet/shower line? I was at a plumbing store and the counterman there was insisting that the new Gerber avalanche is comparable to the toto drake performance wise, and gave me a price of $205.00.
He then was pushing me on the Gerber faucets. I thought there design is alright but I have never really heard of gerber so I am a little skeptical if it's crap or not.

Typically Gerber has always been the builder's line for tract housing. I have never used it in 55+ years of plumbing.

What I am understanding is this is a medium quality medium priced toilet that many professionals use when building a boat load of houses. So my question is: For the price of this Gerber avalanche am I getting ripped off or is this a quality product and is this toilet better than that of the Toto Drake?

Good question. I would not pay that much for a Gerber toilet, but you, as a consumer, might have to. There is no one in this area who carries them so I cannot tell you anything other than their past history.

Plumbing stores like new auto dealers always sell from stock, whenever they can. That is where the business and profits are. Kohler, American Standard and ToTo are very picky on who they do business and who they allow to represent them. The discounts to a Master Stocking Distributor are greater than to a dealer. This is even before a licensed plumber or home owner touches the product.
I don't know of many Master Stocking Distributors of one major brand also stocking another major brand. I do know that Master Stocking Distributors trade or exchange brands to meet their "in-house" customers.
Kind of like going into a Chevy dealership and asking for a Ford.
It sounds from your statement that your plumbing dealer is a Gerber Dealer that sells the Gerber Brand. If you ask for a ToTo, they will defend what they carry "in stock" and say its just as good.
Had you dealer been a Kohler Dealer and you asked about the Gerber, they would have defended the Kohler Brand.
Hence, you are stuck with the facts guide and Mapps test results. Based on those reports you can or should be able to make an educated decision.
Big Box Stores has no committment to another other than what they have on their shelf from one buying season to another. They too can change with the best deal offered to THEM.
You got the facts.
Best Wishes

Yep, everyone that doesn't sell Toto has something that is just as good as a Toto!
All these companies sat back and said that you just couldn't get a good flush with 1.6 GPF and it was just too bad the goverment mandated it... Get a plunger!
Then Toto showed them how it was done! They all went back to the drawing board and copied how Toto did it and came out with a whole bunch of as good as toilets... Toto is the benchmark! Isn't it tough when everybody wants to be as good as!
Now they have done it again as we move into the era of "HET" Toilets...
There are 3 ways a toilet can be "HET" rated:
1.) Flush with pressure assist 1.1 Gallons Per Flush
2.) Dual Flush 1.6 GPF for # 2 and a lower volume flush for #1
3.) Flush by gravity with 1.28 GPF
Well Pressure Assisted is loud and repair parts can be very expensive, Dual Flush could be a little confusing... Imagine a house guest dropping a big one then hitting the light flush button... It could be very ugly!
The Toto ADA Eco-Drake gives the same slammin flush as the regular 1.6 ADA Drake gulping down 900 Grams of Solids per Flush... But does it with 1.28 GPF!
Once again they have raised the bar! I have been installing Toto Drakes in Residential and Commercial applications for over 5 years now and have not had 1 defective one or, a callback on one yet! I can't say the same about other brands!
Am I biased? Yep! Doing it twice or, having to go back costs me money!
Check the MaP Report in my auto signature! A word of caution... It is only a flush test report... It is not a quality testing report. There are some real junk quality toilets that manage to flush very well. Here is a great example of that![www.americanstandardclassaction.com]
