Hey everyone, it's been a while ...
The handles and/or flappers on many Gerber toilets I've installed lately have a tendency to "hang up." It's annoying, to say the least, to have a new toilet that won't shut off after you flush it.
At first, it appeared the flapper chains were on the short side and did not allow much leeway for adjustment, but the real cause seems to be that the handle does not consistently drop down enough to release all the tension on the flapper chain.
I make a habit of snugging the handle nuts on all new toilets in case they loosen during shipping, but do not tighten them excessively.
I'm not crazy about Gerber toilets (don't like those wingnut style tank to bowl nuts, either). After five years of installing toilets, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, so I have to believe there's some manufacturing defect. I'm just wondering if there's a bad batch locally, or if plumbers in other areas have had the same problem.

The plastic part on the handle may be binding and preventing it from dropping properly. I always check the insides of the tank and often snug up the trip lever hold down nut, (not too much), and reposition refill tubes on ocassion.
...Try smearing a small amount of Plumbers grease, it could help.

Then why are you selling your customers Gerber?.Never liked them, o.k flush but big old ugly things they are.And could they make the tank a little bigger??.Between the box for the bowl and tank you can't tell the differance.
