How old is your water heater? You may have something inside it breaking down, like a diptube or anode rod. If you look at the sticker label on the water heater it will have the model and serial number. Usually the first 2 or 4 numbers of the serial number will tell you when it was made.

I forgot about that one, and replacing the water connectors on the water heater would be a fairly easy and low-cost thing to try to fix the situation. Also, if there is an expansion tank connected to the water heater it may have a rubber diaphragm that is coming apart.

BLACK debris.... OK, How old is the heater, does it have SS Flex supplies or copper ones and yes does it have an expansion tank can you take a picture if the heater and surrounding area and the date plate. Since it is only happening in the HOT water it has to be something that is introducing the BLACK debris, Dip tubes are generally white or light colored here so if they disintegrate it is easy to spot, generally SS Braided supplies do not break down to BLACK, however an expansion tank will introduce black particles due to the rubber diaphragm and if you are on a well then that tosses in a whole other scenario.
