We need to replumb our 1940's house. We have received two bids at roughly the same price. The first is to replumb using the existing crawlspace below the house. The second plumber proposed to use the attic. Which is more effective?

During my visits to FL, I'm always aware of the warmth of the 'cold' water because the cold water in my area is typically 55*. Installing the plumbing in the attic is only going to add to the temperature of the static water. For that reason only, I would go with the crawl space.

Crawlspace.

Plumbing in the attic adds the concern of condensation dripping onto the ceilings in the home, making water spots. Plus it will soak attic insulation. Not to mention any leaks up there cause more damage than leaks from crawlspace piping.

IN your situation crawlspace if it is accessible with out an up charge, if not make sure they insulate the new piping adequately.
