 Irrigation
Author: travelerde (FL)

My irrigation for the lawn would not shut off. I tried to shut it off in the garage with the off button and then I pulled the plug. Still not shutting off it had been running for about 5 hours and it was dark outside so I could't see where it was running and not running from. My son finally shut of the main water valve. What caused this to happen? Thank you.

I'd guess it's a burned valve actuator. Without seeing it, it's just a guess.

The irrigation controller runs off electricity, it turns on and off the various irrigation zones by activating an electric water valve. If the valve fails it can stick in open position, so water continues to flow thru it even if the electricity to it is removed. You should know where your master water shutoff valve is and how to turn off the water in situations like this, or a washing machine hose busting, etc.

Irrigation specialist, is your next call, How ever you CAN shut off the water to the irrigation system on the out side of the house and then turn the main back on so you can have water until the sprinkler guys get there to replace the computer or figure out what is actually going wrong. since you are in FLA find the meter pit which you have because you have no water now, look towards the house and see if you can see a pipe sticking out of the ground with a funny looking brass thing double check, you should see a valve handle from the pipe coming out of the house. Close that valve and turn the main back on should solve the problem at least temporarily, fix the irrigation problem And then have a great weekend....
