 Tapping into well water line
Author: Gib (VA)

Hello,

I have a geothermal heat pump supplied by a deep well system. The pump is in the crawl with the return dumping into my old deep well. My thermostat is controlling the on/off of the pump. I would like to tap into the feed to the heat pump to run a separate line for irrigation to my garden. Since the pump is signaled by the stat, will this work or do I need another pump for this line, or do I use the return with a storage tank, trying to keep it simple.

Thanks, Gib

You don't want to tap into the feed. You will want to use the return water .Pipe it into a large storage tank with a separate jet pump for the irrigation lines would work well. Pipe the overflow of the large tank to the old well. You have 2 wells ? If so a pump in the 2nd well would also work for the irrigation system.
