Hi I am lost of what to do when it comes to installing water line from meter to cabin. As of right now cabin is not finished so we would like to at least get a spigot going. The water line will be running 400 ft. About half way it will be going uphill probably 20 ft at a steep incline. then will go to flat land. Any info would be appreciated to the easiest and cheapest directions on out to do this. Also been trying to find the 1" blue poly line online. One I seen said ips and the other said cts. They look the same. Thanks again

Blue poly water line, just might be acceptable in your State/County. Check to see if it can be used in your area. Determine how deep it must go and how to protect it. A ditch-witch, might be in your future too.
Best Wishes

Install a frost free yard hydrant at the edge of you yard, install a water meter box and ball valve just ahead of the hydrant, bury a sleeve on into the foundation of your home. That way you only have to dig one time, then when you're ready for the final connection just push the pipe thru the sleeve into the meter box and make the connection. 1" polyethylene would be a good choice.

Our water company is installing the water meter at the road. Is this the same meter your talking about. Also lol what is a sleeve?

Also I forgot to ask being so far from the road should there be a shut off valve close to hydrant? Thank you for the information I have received so far.

NC Plumber was stating just that. Install a meter box(not a meter, just the box) with a ball valve in it as a main shut-off valve.

I understand that now.I am a women so not good at this. This only thi g left I dont understand is what did he mean by bury the sleeve. I understand to the hydrant.1"poly to meter box with a ball valve installed inside then to the hydrant. How would I eventually connect house to hydrant. Sorry if I sound dumb.

A sleeve can be a 4" flexible pipe that you bury now. Later, when you are ready to make the final connection you just push your 1" water line thru the sleeve. You don't have to do it that way, it would be easier and less expensive though, you won't have to get the backhoe guy to come back out to dig a short ditch from the hydrant to the house.

okay got that.Thank you. Afraid I have another question. So the meter from road to box with ball valve to hydrant. Or is the ball valve after the hydrant. Confused on how water from inside home will connect to hydrant.I feel stupid right now.I understand just confused.the water line goes in one side of ball valve and out the other. Usually on a hydrant it ends there. I think maybe the hydrant before the ball valve.maybe.which would mean I would have to put a tee at the bottom of hydrant.
