 Odor from overflow
Author: Mwalker98 (ID)

Hi, I keep smelling an odor from my bathroom sink overflow. Is there sludge in there?

There could be a build-up of gunk in the overflow, causing the odor. Try spraying a bunch of foaming bathroom cleaner in the overflow hole.

If that sink drain has backed up, or if someone fills the sink so full that water runs thru the overflow hole then you may have mildew or other stuff inside the overflow cavity. You can fill the sink with water and add some bleach to it, then turn on the faucet slowly to let the sink fill to where the sink water with bleach flows into the overflow. That may help. Or as suggested you could try spraying bathroom cleaner from a can with a straw-like tube to reach inside the overflow hole on all sides.
