 Plumbing code

Is a shutoff valve for the hot water tank and bathtub/sink necessary and is part of the plumbing code?My plumber removed the hot water tank shut off valve and the tub/sink shutoff valve in the hot water tank closet. He said I can shut off the cold water with the whole house shutoff valve in the basement just below the floor trap door to the basement. He also said I can shut off the hot water valve on the hot water tank which does have one.I don't think this is the code but he said it is.He removed the two shutoff valves to route two plastic pipes through the floor to the basement. The original pipes were copper and the shutoff valves were connected between two copper pipes lengths. The pipes were replaced by plastic piping so he probably thought the shutoff valves would not be stable in plastic lines when turning the valve on or off.Is it code?

One is required on the cold side of the water heater and one on the hot and cold side of the sink faucet.

my code not only says there must be a shutoff in the cold supply to the water heater, it MUST be installed 6 inches higher than the top of the tank.

Also, within 30" of the heater.

You are "non US" so we do not know what YOUR code is, so these things may NOT be required by your code.

'Code' is the MINIMUM required for (safe) human occupation.

Would YOU not WANT valves for future maintenance ?

"Non US" could be anywhere, and in some areas, THEIR "minimum standards" are NOT the same as ours, regardless of what WE would prefer in our own residences. The "plumber" saying it is "not required" COULD be true in their area.

You miss my point.

It may not be 'required'.

However, should the customer desire, it COULD be 'specified' as part of the scope of work to be performed.

And, of course, be paid extra for.

Forget the 'code'.

Yes, one must comply, but it is the MINIMUM requirement.

Like a MINIMUM ceiling height of 84".

A MINIMUM indoor winter temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

You SHOULD have isolation valves for ANY plumbing fixture(s) or equipment.

You do not want a whole structure shutdown for routine maintenance.
