 Clogged double sink standing water.
Author: MyraB (CA)

This is probably a duplicate, but I couldn't find the problem.
I have a double kitchen sink with standing water. Can I put the dirty water in the toilet or will that just give me another problem?? Thanks for everyone's help !

You need to clear from the trap on into the waste in the wall with a snake. Yes you need to evacuate the water in the double sink and place a pan below the trap. When you loosen the Nuts on the Trap you will get the balance of the water you did not evacuate from the sinks (maybe a couple of quarts) so get a large low pan that you can get under the trap to dump this water in your toilet. Good luck

Thanks for the help. I live in an apartment and will be calling the office to get this fixed. I don't want them to remove the standing water as they are messy with that kind.of thing. I just want to remove the standing water and need to know if I can put the water into the toliet . Thanks

Sure as long as there are no large chunks that won't flush.

I usually reassemble sink trap and try running hot water down the drain in both basins to flush the sink pipes and the drain line.
When you find the drain open, pour into it 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of household vinegar into the basin which is not attached to the garbage disposal. The mixture will foam.
Else
1) Plug one of the basin drains with a stopper or wet rag.
2) Check the p-trap underneath the sink for clogs
3) Snake out the wall drain
4)Snake the drain by loosening the setscrew on the snake's crank handle
5) withdraw the snake by pulling on cable as you turn the crank
6) Reassemble the sink trap and run hot water down th drains in both basins to flush the sink pipes and the drain line.

the problem is the drain pipe, NOT the water so dump it anywhere you want to.
