I have a single diverter valve (for Hot and Cold and water pressure) in my master bath shower. Recently, after initially setting the proper temperature, the water gets very cold. I make an adjustment and then the water gets too hot. I again make an adjustment and the water goes back to too cold. And the cycle continues until after 7 minutes or so when it settles to a consistent temp. Ironically this does happen most times, but NOT every time.
I have no temperature fluctuations in any faucet. However, I have not checked the hall shower which I never use. Valve is original (26 year old).
Thoughts anyone? Thanks for reading.

Take off the shower control cover plate and replace the cartridge/balancing spool inside. Alternately, you may be able to clean it in case some debris is messing it up. What brand is it? Post photo if not sure.

It is a Moen. I guess I would have to dig for a model number to get the right part? Or are the cartridge / balancing spools universal by brand?
