 tub install - ptrap location?
Author: rosaxton (OR)

Does the P -Trap need to be directly below the tub drain, or could I have it 3 feet away as long as there is nothing else plumbed in between?

It needs to be directly under the waste + overflow tee.

I saw some discussions here about "drum traps" that are placed away from the tub?

That might be an alternative trap for them to use if for some reason a p-trap will be too difficult.

sum, the inlet on a drum trap faces to the side as opposed to a p-trap where the opening faces up.
so you can not put a drum trap directly under a drain because you have to put a piece of pipe and a 90 deg in the inlet opening to get it to look upwards.
