 On-floor floor sink
Author: Esteban (CA)

Hi,
I have a commercial kitchen and currently my wash sink drain is directly piped into the ground. The wastewater department inspector told me I need to have a floor sink with a gap and a screen to collect food stuffs from going down the line. All of the floor sinks I've seen require in-floor installation. I am hoping to avoid this minor project by finding a floor sink that will sit on top of the floor, but still provide the required gap and screen. Does anyone have advice on if this type of floor sink exists, or any other advice on how to accomplish what we need done?
Thanks,
Esteban

Is this a new requirement? Presumably your kitchen was built according to code in effect at the time. What about your friendly competitors in the area, how did they solve this sink drain requirement?

you can mount a floor sink anywhere you need it. If it is above the floor, usually you pour a concrete form around it.

We call a floor sink, a mop sink as it is used to hold mops while they dry and for cleaning garbage cans. Some use the mop basin for emptying floor cleaning equipment. The drain must be protected from solids entering the drain with a strainer (beehive) or (flat) to protect the embedded trap.

Is your floor sink made of cement with tile or fiberglass ?

Best Wishes

A "floor sink" is a 12 x12x6 cast iron basin, (usually but not always installed flush with the floor), NOT a "mop sink basin" which is either 24x24x12 or 24x36x12
