 Brand new symmons leaking
Author: Steve williams (MA)

Hi guys. I have a brand new symmons (s-4002)installed properly and works fine.problem is the valve leaks from the diverter when it's on.enough so I feel it would leak behind the wall and cause damage below.is this common on a new valve? I feel that it shouldn't leak at all being new. What can be done to stop the leak? Have any of you known these to be leak free or are they typically leaky?
Thanks for any answers you have.

Also, it just occured to me that when I soldered the copper pipes to the valve body, I didn't remove the diverter spindle. Only the main mixer spindle. It never occured to me to remove it. Could this have damaged the o ring?

1 800 SYMMONS call them for free parts.
you will need a large allen wrench and possibly a 5/15 lag screw.
remove the threaded brass piece holding the diverter and the strange shaped brass washer and gently screw the lag into the hole in the diverter. when the metal threads catch, push firmly and get the threads to bite into the plastic.
the diverter will slide right out.
silicone grease on the new diverter 'o' ring and away you go...

Thanks. I did some research and got similar info.it wasn't obvious how to remove it. I'll have to remove that spindle and inspect the seal. Maybe it's best to replace it with a new part. (even though it's a brand new valve)

they are notorious for being difficult to remove. once you have access to it, there is no where to grab to pull it out. so the 5/16 lag screw tightened into the middle will ruin the spool but will get it out..
so just have a greased up new one ready to slide in.

Thanks for the info packy. I haven't got back to that job yet. I'll try getting the part before I risk damaging it.
