Hot water doesnt last in only one shower
Author: jpnpap512 (TX)

Hi all! I have a two story house with two full baths upstairs. I am having problems with the master shower only. The hot water doesnt seem to last more than a few minutes. It gets hot like normal, it just doesnt last. The guest bath gets hot and stays that way for a very long time. The problem isnt that the water doesnt get hot enough. Its that it doesnt last. Gas water heater. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

When that shower turns cold/warm, is normal hot water available at other fixtures?

Yes, check that first. It could be that the showerhead restrictor has been removed and it is depleting the water heater of available hot water. If you still have hot water everywhere else then the faucet itself should be examined, it might just need disassembled and the cartridge removed and cleaned or replaced.

The most common cause of that, unless the heater is running out of hot water, is a bad check valve in a recirculation system.

The hot water for all fixtures in the entire house finishes when the hot water from master bath ends. It ends in under 6 minutes. However, if you were to shower in the guest bath instead of the master bath for lets say, 20 minutes, the hot water would not finish and the remainder of the house would still have hot water. Please let me know if you need further clarification. I really appreciate everyones time and responses!

Do you know if you have a recirculating pump on your water heater? Post a photo of your water heater showing the pipes connected to it. [there is a blue button above that explains how to post a photo]
