Could no longer budge Moen single shower push/pull so needed to replace cartridge after 42 years! Bought new cartridge, flagged down plumber working on house renovation down the street for emergency help. He replaced cartridge and all seemed to be working fine. Five minutes after he left I turned on bath and water sprayed everywhere out of spout. Seems diverter went defunct, maybe from too much water pressure with new cartridge. Plumber came back next day, cut off old spout that was corroded on and then he sawed off old threaded metal piece, cleaned everything and said it would be easier to just put on new push spout with diverter instead of screw on. It was a few weeks before I could get out to buy new spout/top diverter but when I tried to install, water leaked down behind tile, So I just left it for a few months and used downstairs shower instead until I could get friend to help. Plumber was gone day after installation and lives far away. He had been helping friend and does not work in this area. Water came out of tub pipe fine without spout attached when I periodically cleaned out unused tub.. Today when I went to turn on water to clean unused tub the shower push/pull wouldn’t budge. Still haven’t installed new spout. Everything seems to be frozen. Bad cartridge, though it is new?

too many unknowns to answer. Where is the diverter? What kind of spout? What kind of pipe out of the wall and how long is it? Etc., etc., etc..

Etc. etc. etc???? What more do you need to know? I stated spout had top diverter but it doesn't matter since spout is not attached. Manufacturer of spout and type also immaterial for same reason. Shortened version: Moen cartridge installed, all worked fine in terms of water delivery through copper tube for spout and then lever wouldn't budge and that is sole mechanism for water delivery out of copper tube.

IF the diverter button is on the spout, and it does not move, get a different spout. WE cannot tell WHAT the problem is just by your description.
