 Toilet help
Author: Linds1987 (PA)

My husband installed a new glacier bay toilet a few months ago. It has a much more powerful flush then our old toilet. Ever since he put the new toilet in, the toilet in our basement bathroom (directly below the new toilet and hooked up the same vent) sprays water and has a huge air bubble come up whenever the upstairs toilet is flushed. We have no other plumbing issues. It is almost as if the toilet upstairs is too powerful. My husband got on the roof and used a snake to see if the vent was clogged. He also put some water down it to try to clear any debris. This didn't do anything. I don't think it's a main sewer line clog because we have no other issues. Can anyone offer some insight as to what could be going on and how we can fix this issue?! Thanks!

Is there a whole-house trap down-stream?

I am not sure. Where would it be if we had one?

Or two closely spaced openings in the floor, but the usual cause is a poorly installed main drain pipe in the wall.
