I'm in the middle of remodeling my kitchen. My plumber recommended Grohe, but I'm finding lots of bad reviews. In your professional opinion, what are the best brands and which ones should I avoid? Also, do more traditional, no frills faucets tend to have fewer problems than single handle pull-down or pull-out faucets? Thanks for any direction you can give me.

EVERY faucet is going to have "bad reviews", because you cannot please everyone. The poorest faucets, however, seem to be the "private brand" ones at the various vendors, even if some of them are made by the mainline manufacturers.

Moen/ Delta. Have you considered their new low voltage, electronic kitchen faucets? Its a growing concept. Unlike faucet from the past, these faucets are "no touch" while they save water and look great.

I personally have had no issues with Grohe and if you can afford I recommend that you go with Grohe.

Often, but not always, the same model sold at a 'big box store' is of GREATLY inferior quality to the 'identical' item sold at a major plumbing supply.
IMO: big box store = junk ~ plumbing supply house = decent to excellent
I personally like Kohler.

Chicago faucet, I prefer the ones with a quaturn cartridge rather than the ceramic one - they can be fixed.
