Help getting clean drinking safe water to Cabin
Author: Soulprogression (HI)

Aloha, I am looking for some help on running water to my little 12x12 cabin on my friends land here in Hawaii. The run is about 100 ft. From the nearest water line. Nearest line is PVC so I am first off wondering how safe is it to drink from PVC piping. This will kind of determine the next set of questions. IE Is it better to run pvc from this line to the cabin and then filter with something like a no power alkaline water filter. Or should I just get a drinking safe clear flow garden hose and run it simple like that? I am currently just running a garden hose out there to the sink. This is resulting in an issue of constant pressure in the hose which of course leads to frequent bursting. As a temporary fix is there any kind of valve that I can put at the far end of the hose that will automatically close when the sink is closed here, and then open the pressure when the sink is opened? Something that will take the pressure off of the garden hose when the sink is not running water, and then will automatically open back up when I run the sink water again?

easiest way is to get 100 foot roll of pex (by your description this should be enough) then crimp on pex x hose fittings on the ends. this will never burst but it is subject to UV rays so give it a good coat of paint to protect it..
P/S, a tool rental shop should have a crimp tool you can rent for an hour..

Millions, at least, homes have PVC main water lines so it IS safe to drink from it. Unless your water source is NOT "safe" there should not be any need for further filtering at the cabin. There are automatic valves that open when you turn on a faucet and the pressure in the line drops, but nothing that could figure out when you open a faucet if the line already does not have pressure in it.

Is it ok to burry the pex pipe? Or is better to just do PVC if the owner wants it a buried line?

I'd use poly pipe and bury it. They use it for wells, and it's cheap.

I would still use a filter at the cabin. Hawaii has chromium-6 in their water.
