Never had an issue like this. Brand new goulds ejector pit with piggy-back float. Plugged into tamper proof outlet. Intermittently will not turn on. First time I checked I thought float was a tad too long and was maybe getting stuck on side of the pit. Adjusted the tether length a inch or two. Moves freely. Inlet pipe is not dumping onto float. Second time I went the float was in the straight up on position and the pit was full. Pumped it out by bypassing switch. Sat there and ran water/flushed for 45 mins and pump came on without fail.Float moved freely the whole time. Checked prongs of plug and outlet fot defects, nothing wrong. Am thinking its a defective float but it only fails when I'm not there

Unless you are being paid to watch, I'd consider the system as defective and return it for credit or replace it.
