is there a mini pressure activated pump?
Author: cvcman (NY)

OK, I have a floor drain that usually is no problem..except when we have heavy snow melt like today with 2-1/2 foot that melted in e days topped with rain..
When this happens the drain backs up..i have an anti back flow bulb thing that stops most but I still get a little on the floor around the drain..
After a couple dry days its fine again,,
Right next to the drain is a hub sticking out of the floor that has a plug on top..if you unscrew the plug you are looking into a trap/pipe that leads away from the drain.
We "think" the drain goes to an old unused septic tank...don't know for sure.
We don't have a sump crock and the basement is dry..
Is there any type of inline pressure activated pump that I could put into the hub sticking out of the floor that when the pipe fills I could pump it out?
It olny causes a problem like once every few years..
Thx

if the basement is 100% dry, is the floor drain necessary?
seems like you are treating the symptom not the cause?
why not dig a small hole, bury a 5 gallon bucket with holes in it and install a pump with a switch?

Thought about that but was afraid if I open the slab I may have constant water
Wish I knew for sure where the drain went and why under heavy melt it does this
The house was built in the late 50's

my son's house is about the same age as yours. his is a stinking nightmare. three 30 gallon sump pump barrells with zoeller submersible pumps and battery backup pumps.
he has had the entire inside perimeter of his floor busted up and dug down 18 inches. then had 4 inch perforated pipe installed leading to the tanks and covered with gravel.
cost thousands and didn't help that much.
there is a small brook that runs water 2-3 times a year otherwise it is dry on his property line. the conservation commission will not allow him to dig outside to effect a remedy.

My real question is IF it goes into an old septic, which I did have I scoped once and the guy said right outside the wall it goes into an old septic tank, he said he could tell by Y or hub connection ???
So if that's the case, why under heavy snow melt does it back up ? If the tank is full are the old leachfields overwhelmed so the ground water comes back ?
I guess I just don't understand

that's the 64,000 dollar question..
until you know EXACTY what is happening you can not remedy the situation.
there could even be a small leak in the pipe under your basemant floor allowing rising ground water to enter the pipe.
BTW, where the hell do you live that has had 2 1/2 feet of snow by thanksgiving ??? something tells me its not phoenix.. :>winking smiley

That's what I want to avoid...making a nightmare...right now it's once every 3 yrs or so the drain fills and the ball stopper comes up...other than that..its fine and the entire basement is 45 percent humidity
