My son and I are trying to replace the flush valve and new part from the inside of our toilet tank. He has gotten everything off except cannot remove the nut on the bottom of the old flush valve. We can't see where there's anything to unscrew from the inside of the tank or the outside of the tank (which we've taken off and is inverted on the floor.) Any suggestions on how to get this old one off? We have a whole new system to get in but are at a standstill. Thanks!

On two-piece toilets there is a big plastic nut underneath the tank retaining the flush valve assembly which should be accessible now that you have taken the tank off the bowl. Strange. Got a photo?

Can't get a picture to post. It's a black plastic octagonal lock nut but there is a triangular rubber gasket with 3 footers that stick into the ceramic tank that helps secure it to the bowl. How can we get that off?

the 3 rubber 'footers' have nothing to do with the flush valve.
they are kohler's version of gaskets for the tank to bowl bolts.
just unscrew the big hex nut and the valve will come loose..

Thanks all, we ended up taking it to Home Depot and got a really strong man to pry it off for us. we didn't have to pay anything, and ended up with a fixed toilet. Have a nice night
