Packy,
Here's the actual photo boiler end so you want me to install an isolation valve just past the drain and before the water feeder? (The green thing I assume is tge feeder) note there is a globe valve upstream directly above. Could or should I just shorten up the 1/2" feeder and shoe horn the water feeder above the globe / gate valve?
As always thanks,
Joey

joey, I would replace that feed valve as it is an iron body model and if it isn't clogged with rust yet, it will be shortly. replace it with a brass body one. you want a watts 1156-B. the ( stands for brass.
unscrew the adapter from the bottom of the backflow preventer, put a 1/2 inch brass close nipple in it and screw the fill valve onto it.
so, starting at the tee working right to left you want a nipple, a ball valve another nipple, a 90 looking up, a nipple, the fill valve, a nipple and the backflow preventer.
P/S, you can also replace both feeder and backflow if you want. comes as a package. watts B911S (b = brass .. s = sweat) the union end will be compatible old to new.
