How should I connect new drain?
Author: ringo7979 (IL)

I am updating my basement shower and need some help to connect a new drain. I have cast iron that runs under the foundation. Where it comes up in the shower I have no way to connect to it. Once the drain is installed I am planning on pouring a new shower pan with liner. Here is what I have now.

If I were doing it, I'd bust up the concrete around the drain, saw the old drain off, use a shielded coupling and a tile shower drain.

So there is no drain on there now, just the 2" CI pipe coming up. How would you suggest busting up the concrete to get to the point of putting the coupler on there?

A jack hammer, or large hammer drill with a chisel bit.
