Got a call from a home owner. She said the building inspector cited her basement for many problems including this kitchen sink drain. Looks like the trap arm is rolled down with a couple of 22's and then ties into a horizontal drain coming from the laundry with a comby and then connects to a san tee in a vertical drain with a vent off the top.

If an AAV was installed on this trap arm before it dives down with the 22 offset fittings would that bring it up to code? thanks for any input.

in cases like this, I always call the inspector to ask "what do you want me to do?".
you didn't create this violation, you are only trying to correct it. and usually correcting it means making the inspector feel better about it.

He might still not like the sink drain flowing past the laundry sink's connection, or that you appear to have two sinks on a 1 1/2" waste arm.

so it turns out there is a washer in a detached garage and a kitchen sink from upstairs on this line. Called the city plumbing inspector and discussed the situation. He wants a back water valve installed on the downstairs kitchen sink trap arm and the offset removed in the trap arm. Will do as he wishes. Any thoughts about how this backwater valve will effect the venting?
