I wish I could post a photo of the seat in my 73-year-old tub faucet: the seat is smooth and cylindrical on its inside -- not a square or hex. Does that mean it's non-removable? I've tried Liquid Wrench and a screw extractor, which produced plenty of brass shavings, but no progress. I'm reluctant to hammer a screw-driver in there unless I know it's removable.
I tried dressing the seat, first. It has a really deep notch, however. Is that my last option to save the original faucet?

if it is circular in the center it is not removable.
if the set dressing tool has a 1/4 inch stem, put it into a battery drill and run it slowly.

I was afraid of that. The nick is pretty deep. The seat's a lot deeper, so in theory, I can dress it if I go deep enough. But I wish there were a way to fill that nick.

You will only get one chance. If you dress the seat on an angle or do anything else to damage it, you may not be able to recover from it.
