Hi,
Here's a strange one for you. I have a Moen Banbury two handle faucet on my garden tub. Up until about a week ago I had nice hot water. Then suddenly it wouldn't get more than warm. I suspect some sort of hot-cold cross over, but I've pulled out and replaced the two cartridges in the repsective handles and it is still just luke warm.
I can't easily test to see if the water coming to the facuet is hot because there's no shut off valves that are accessible. I'm sure there are some under the tub, somewhere.
Have you ever heard of such a weird thing?
Thanks for any advice.
John

The crossover could be from another faucet, one with a single handle. Try shutting off either hot or cold angle stop for a nearby sink with a single handle(if there is one), and see if the hot water improves.

Is there a pressure-balance valve installed in the hot/cold supplies to the Banbury faucet ( nearby closet or cabinet, under the whirlpool, ceiling of basement below, etc.)?

Turn off the water supply to the water heater and then open a hot faucet. if there is a crossover, there will still be flow from the faucet. Do you have a hot water recirculation system?

So I tried all those things:
1. No cold water backflow when shutting off the hot water.
2. Replaced the cartridge in the shower handle.
Now the water seems to cylce between Hot, warm and damned near cold! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I've been reading about 'scald prevention' mechanisms, but I don't know if a roman-style faucet does that sort of thing?
I'm at a loss... any more ideas?

I don't know if there is -- there's no access panel to see under the tub! :-(
