 cellar smell
Author: gj13us (PA)

Odor in our basement. We have a Flotec laundry pump. It had not been vented to the outside when we moved into the house in 1999. Once in a while there was an odor but it wasn't a problem. Over the past several months the odor got worse and became almost constant. I blame our new front load washer, which uses less water, which means there's less flushing of the Flotec tank.

About two weeks ago I finally got around to venting to the outside. It fixed the problem almost immediately and almost entirely. There's been a day or two when the odor was back: a sour, drain smell. Any ideas as to what else it could be?

Possibly the rubber seal under the lid ?

Probably the new washer? It's a problem with the new washers.

I caulked all around the lid, and the washer doesn't smell. We run a cleaning cycle through it every so often.
